Orion

Orion Street is a contemporary interior renovation in Coorparoo, designed by Elan Bar and built by McPherson Constructions. The project involved a complete reworking of the kitchen, dining, living areas, bathroom and ensuite within their original locations, with a focus on improving flow, natural light and spatial clarity. While modest in scale, the design was highly detailed and deliberate, calling for precision and a linear construction process to accommodate tight tolerances and custom finishes.

The renovation was delivered through close builder–architect collaboration, with McPherson Constructions involved from early design stages. As the first time working together, the team took time to understand each other’s approach, developing a strong working rhythm through regular meetings and open communication. Key design elements—such as cabinetry detailing, skylight integration and the specification of blackwood veneer finishes—were resolved together as construction progressed. Some detailing also had to adapt to the constraints of the original hardwood structure and subfloor.

Despite significant challenges around material availability and longer lead times in the post-COVID environment, the project was completed to a high standard. The homeowner was actively involved throughout the build, with weekly site meetings and direct communication helping manage expectations during delays. McPherson Constructions maintained a hands-on presence on site, building confidence through transparency, a well-maintained site, and timely resolution of post-completion concerns. The result is a refined and modern interior that reflects the original vision, balanced with the character of the existing home.
